Yggdrasil wold tree pendant 14k gold and black zirconia
“I know an ash tree, named Yggdrasil, a high tree, speckled with white clay; dewdrops fall from it upon the valleys; it stands, forever green, above Urth’s well.” - Voluspa, translation by J. Crawford
Yggdrasil, the world tree, is believed to be the very pillar of the universe in Nordic Myth, around which all existence is centred. With a serpent gnawing at the roots and eagles nesting in the top branches, Yggdrasil holds the nine worlds around its trunk and branches.
Our interpretation of the world-tree features 9 black zirconia, masterfully set into the branches and trunk of the golden tree, symbolising the nine worlds, or the gateways through which one might access them.
Trees and groves are well known to be a sacred element in Scandinavian and Germanic cultures, where some trees have been venerated as late as the 19th century. Wardens and protectors, trees have always been regarded as a symbol of good luck and protection, for gods and men.
